John’s Grill has been an essential San Francisco restaurant since it opened in 1908. John Konstin spoke to us about his neighborhood, Union Square, and his restaurant, John’s Grill, which has been in his family since the 1960s. It is an iconic San Francisco spot, and a gathering place for writers, politicians, firefighters , police officers, regular working people, and San Francisco celebrities alike; it is one of the anchors that make the City by the Bay whole. Located in Union Square, John’s Grill is just one block away from the Powell Street Cable Car, and sitting outside the restaurant you can hear the bell ring as the cable car passes by. John spoke to us about the history of John’s Grill, and the many notable people who have passed through her doors, and the people and stories who have made John’s Grill the quintessential San Francisco spot it is.
